Trans Awareness Week | November 20th is Trans Day of Remembrance/Resilience

This is Trans Awareness Week and November 20th is Trans Day of Remembrance/Resilience. Here are some resources you can review if you want to learn more about this topic.

Trans Day of Resilience is an art and poetry project by trans people of colour. It was founded by the Audre Lorde Project and Forward Together in the US and each year there are new artists and poets sharing their art.

This online training module is available from Trans Care BC for health care and social service providers. Folks might be interested in the handouts/tip sheets available including “Gender Inclusive Language” and “Making Mistakes and Correcting Them” which can be downloaded from this website.

Dr. James Makokis is a Cree Two-Spirit doctor providing care for trans and Two-Spirit patients and these are some great profiles of him and his work:

Also, tonight (Tue, November 19th) in Lkwungen territories, two trans and Two-spirit poets will be reading at Open space: Gwen Benaway and Arielle Twist.
