The "huts" on campus are the last remaining buildings of the Gordon Head army camp that occupied the site of the UVic campus until the late 1950s.

Hut Y is used for storage. Hut R houses the offices of the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health while Hut E and Q include space used by the Faculty of Engineering. The Facilities Management Department uses Huts A and B for operational needs.

Due to age and physical deterioration, several of the Second World War-era huts have been deconstructed over time. Those particular buildings were at the end of their life cycle and no longer provided suitable space for university offices.
