Mia Maki joined the faculty at the Gustavson School of Business in 2007 bringing more than 25 years of teaching and facilitation experience. She is part of the Entrepreneurship team and teaches entrepreneurial finance and venture planning, in addition to courses in accounting, managerial finance and corporate finance at both the undergraduate and graduate level. 

Mia teaches/facilitates for the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC and Alberta in Executive Education and Continuing Education programs. 

She is formerly CFO and COO for IVL Technologies and consults for several local technology and non-tech companies. Mia has assisted in raising over $50 million in funds and in international initiatives including acquisitions in the US, strategic partnerships in Japan and joint subsidiary creation in Europe. 

In addition, she provided risk assessment and other support to BC Ferries, originally in the $520M capital acquisition program for the Super “C” ferries, and in the fleet-wide operational project, SailSafe. 

Mia holds a Certified Management Accountants’ designation (now Chartered Professional Accountant, CPA) and was honoured as a fellow in 2005 for her commitment to the organization and the community. She is an active volunteer in the local community and serves on numerous boards and committees including Board Chair for Archipelago Marine Research, and St. Michael’s University School Audit and Finance Committee.
