Innovative MBA for TELUS garners global recognition at Excellence in Practice Awards

May 16, 2018 – The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business’ award-winning partnership with TELUS has continued its streak of global recognition by winning the Silver Award for Talent Development at the Excellence in Practice Awards.

The Gustavson School of Business was recognized for its MBA for TELUS— a customized MBA degree program designed in partnership with the telecommunications company to create leaders aligned with TELUS’ strategic goals and values, who are able to understand and respond to its future challenges.

Further enhancing the school’s reputation as a centre of innovative and collaborative teaching, the awards celebrate outstanding and impactful organization partnerships in the areas of leadership, professional, talent, and organizational development. Gustavson is the only North American business school to be recognized as part of the 2018 awards. Created in 2007, the awards are an initiative of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), the world’s largest association in the field of management development. EFMD is the awarding body behind EQUIS accreditation – Europe’s highest quality assessment standard for business schools.

"We are incredibly proud of the TELUS MBA program and our wonderful partnership with the Gustavson School of Business,” says Dan Pontefract, TELUS Chief Envisioner and champion of the program. “The return on investment has exceeded our wildest expectations. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the University of Victoria for years to come."

Launched in 2015, the MBA for TELUS is delivered through Gustavson’s Sardul S. Gill Graduate School and pairs the academic depth of its regular MBA programs with industry-specific course content. Predicting and responding to a changing business environment has always been central to Gustavson’s vision and teaching philosophy. The MBA for TELUS is another example of the school rising to challenges in management education – and tackling real business problems through collaboration, innovation and applied learning.

The MBA for TELUS was named one of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business’ 2018 30 Innovations that Inspire earlier this spring, and its first cohort of 20 executives will graduate this summer. Following the success of this inaugural class, TELUS has commissioned three additional cohorts.

Award recipients will present their partnerships at the EFMD Executive Development Conference, held in Lausanne, Switzerland on October 17-18, 2018.
