Gustavson School of Business Re-accredited with AACSB

The UVic Gustavson School of Business has earned continuing accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for another five years.

AACSB accredited schools undergo a rigorous peer examination of the teaching environment and review of course relevance to the needs of business.

“This is excellent news,” says Dr. Saul Klein, dean of Gustavson. “Our students have a third-party endorsement that our course content is relevant to today’s business environment and that our professors and instructors are of the highest caliber.”

Last reviewed in 2011, the committee examined the school based on its curriculum, assessed its learning process and reviewed the qualifications of the teaching faculty.

AACSB, established in 1916, is a global, non-profit membership organization of educational institutions, businesses, and other entities devoted to the advancement of management education.

Gustavson also maintains its accreditation with the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) that recognizes the school’s high degree of internationalization, culture of promoting responsible management and close interaction with the community and the business world.

“These accreditations acknowledge the school’s commitment to excellence,” says Klein. “Less than 0.5 per cent of all business schools worldwide are fully accredited by both AACSB and EFMD (an international network of organizations in the field of management development that manage the EQUIS accreditation process).

In 2015, the Gustavson School of Business celebrated its 25th anniversary. It specializes in entrepreneurship, service management and international business and offers four degree programs: a PhD in International Management and Organization, a Master of Global Business, a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce. It also runs a robust Executive Program that includes custom programs, professional development, Aboriginal programs and international training.
