Assistant Professor with Expertise in Cognitive Psychology or Cognition and Brain Sciences (tenure-track).

Located in Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island, close to Vancouver and Seattle, the Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Cognitive Psychology or Cognition and Brain Sciences.  The position begins on 1 July 2022.  The extant core faculty members in the Cognition and Brain Sciences Program share interests in the basic mechanisms that give rise to mental and brain events and productions (e.g., perceptions, actions, beliefs). We are a closely integrated and collegial group, and we often work together on collaborative research enterprises. Our faculty are major players in the world of cognitive and brain science, as indicated by grants, journal editorships, leadership positions in large professional organizations, etc. We are positively enthused about our work, and very excited about recruiting and supporting the success of a new member of our program.

Requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed a Ph.D. by the time of the appointment, in an area directly relevant to the analysis of basic cognitive mechanisms. The appointment will be made at the level of Assistant Professor and we are unable to consider applications from more senior candidates. Expertise in a methodology that adds to existing departmental expertise is valued; for example, EEG, fNIRS, TMS, motion capture, eye-tracking, virtual reality, or computational modelling. Applicants must have demonstrable research excellence, as evidenced by publications and grant funding appropriate to their level of experience. Applicants must also present evidence for potential excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels in an environment that supports diverse cultures and perspectives. This position will require the teaching of courses in both basic and advanced areas of cognitive psychology or cognition and brain sciences. Interest in teaching statistics and methodology courses will also be considered an asset.

We are seeking candidates with the potential to play a leading role in the future of the cognitive program. Our aim is to build on our strengths, and therefore we are seeking applicants whose research interests will complement and contribute to collaborations with other faculty and students. Duties will include maintaining a successful program of research (as evidenced by publications and external grant support), effective teaching and student supervision of a diverse student body at the undergraduate and graduate levels, respectful interactions and collaborations with colleagues, and contributions to the collegiality, reputation, and day-to-day operation of the Program, Department, and University (e.g., collaborative research, curriculum development, committee service).
