Assistant Professor

The Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Victoria, invites applications from talented scholars for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to commence 1 July 2023. The Department
With a diverse complement of twenty-eight faculty members, the department offers a breadth of topics in economics for undergraduate, MA and PhD students. The department takes great pride in its educational mission. Our top undergraduates are highly sought after by employers and the best graduate programs in Canada. Our graduate students have a high job placement rate, with many in analytical positions or leadership roles in the government of British Columbia, the Federal Government, the Bank of Canada, academia and industry.

The department’s research is equally comprehensive in scope, with core strengths in environmental and resource economics, labour economics, economic history and the economics of Indigenous people among others. We have a strong group of junior professors along with established and award-winning scholars working in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.

Required Qualifications

  • A completed PhD (or be close to completion) in economics, applied economics or agricultural economics
  • An established research program as demonstrated by either publications in scholarly outlets or a strong research pipeline including high-quality research papers targeted at leading scholarly outlets.
  • Ability to provide both graduate and undergraduate level instruction in core areas, as well as supervision and teaching in area(s) of specialization.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, as evidenced through course evaluations or reference letters.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
