Engineering Lab Wing – Antenna Installation

Engineering Lab Wing (ELW) – Roof

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) has contracted with VERA Industrial Access Inc. to mount a satellite antenna on the roof of the Engineering Lab Wing (ELW). The satellite antenna is required to support the recently launched ORCASat satellite designed by UVic engineering students. The installation is to hoist the antenna assembly (already assembled on the roof floor) to the top of one of two antenna towers located on the roof. A crane will be used to hoist the antenna from the roof floor to the top of the west tower.

VERA has sub-contracted the crane work to Coastal Crane. The Service Agreement has been vetted by the UVic Risk Department.

The crane is likely to be positioned in parking lot A. The crane will access the roof area between the A and B wing of ELW as shown in the attached drawing. The courtyard at the south entrance of the ELW will be cordoned off and warning signs put in place. The south entrance will not be accessible to the public for the duration.

We anticipate traffic levels around the south entrance to be low during this time.

Saturday, December 17, 7:00am to 4:30pm
