What would you like others to know about you?
My name is Aleah Ross (she/her) and I am completing my MSc Kinesiology with a focus on health psychology. I am grateful to have also completed my BSc in Biopsychology at the University of Victoria in 2015. My undergraduate degree was a great launch pad for me to begin exploring behaviour, mental health, physical activity, and so much more related to wellness in a broad sense. I am excited to be continuing this work with current research projects focused on family experiences of physical activity and physical activity intervention research; online physical activity interventions for mental health; and equity, diversity and inclusion resources for researchers.
What have you done so far, or what do you hope to accomplish during your graduate degree at UVic?
I have been so grateful for the level of involvement I have been invited to have as a volunteer; I am just in the final stages of submitting a qualitative research paper which I have had the joy of co-authoring with some incredible and world-renowned researchers in my field. As a first year Masters student, I now hope to carry this momentum and knowledge forward into my degree and to contribute more work in health research.
Can you share an experience or something you've learned that other students might benefit from knowing more about?
Volunteering for various UVic labs and research projects has been a key source of knowledge, opportunity, and reward for me as a learner. This engagement has allowed me to explore what impactful research is to me, and subsequently be intentional about decisions about my education and contributions.
