What would you like others to know about you?

I was born and raised in the Netherlands, and completed my BSc in Psychology there, with a specialization in Educational Psychology. I moved to Canada in the summer of 2018 to start my Master’s degree in Special Education at UVic. I have completed all my courses now, but am still working on my thesis. My thesis research examines the efficacy of a reading intervention, that is adapted for synchronous online instruction over Zoom, for elementary school children with reading difficulties. I hope to graduate in the summer of 2021 and then find a job in or around Victoria as an interventionist for reading.

Can you share an experience or something you've learned that other students might benefit from knowing more about?

The most valuable thing I have learned during my time at UVic is that we should strive for equity, not equality, in education, and that every person is different and learns differently, and we as (special) educators should provide the tools that will help students be successful.
