What would you like others to know about you?
My name is Luis Barros and I am an international student from Brazil, where I worked as a Biology high school teacher for 20 years. I hold a Bachelor and Teaching degree in Biology as well master’s degree in Environmental Engineering.
What have you done so far, or what do you hope to accomplish during your graduate degree at UVic?
In 2017, we (my wife, daughter, and I) moved to Canada (Saskatoon-SK) where I did a master’s in Education, at the Department of Educational Foundations, at the University of Saskatchewan. My research focused on Narrative Inquiry methodology, in the context of understanding how immigrants (re)shape their lives, identities, and stories to live by, within and through multicultural worlds. Besides teaching and Biology, I am also passionate about music. Within academic context, I have developed a keen interest in the Ecomusicology field, which I could find at the UVic. I feel fortunate for being accepted to start my PhD program in Educational Studies at the Curriculum and Instruction Department, and I am so excited for this new path in my life.
