BA Recreation and Health Education

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Recreation and Health Education is a second-year entry program. If you've completed, or have in progress, at least 12 units of university-level coursework (8 courses) at UVic or another university or college:

Step #1: Go to the Recreation and Health Education web page to read about the admission requirements and application process. a

Step #2: Apply online by January 31 for entry in September of the same year.

BSc Kinesiology

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Kinesiology is a second-year entry program. If you've completed, or have in progress, at least 12 units of university-level coursework (8 courses) at UVic or another university or college:

Step #1: Go to the Kinesiology application web page and read about the admission requirements and the application process.

Step #2: Apply online by January 31 for entry in September of the same year.

BEd (Elementary Curriculum)

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) Elementary Curriculum program has both first year (see section A below) and second year entry (see section B below). Each entry point has specific admission criteria.

A. First year entry

Apply for first year entry if you are a current high school student, or a high school graduate who hasn't attended college or university.

Step #1: Review the admission requirements on the Undergraduate Admissions website.

Step #2: Apply online by February 28 for year one entry in September of the same year.

  • If you've completed Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate studies during high school be sure to declare them on the online application. You may be eligible for transfer credit.
  • If you aren't selected to year one you may, instead, take year one at UVic in another faculty or at another post-secondary institution and then apply for year two entry.

B. Second year entry

Apply for second year entry if you've completed at least eight university-level courses.

Step #1: Review the admission requirements in the UVic Calendar.

Step #2: Read the BEd Elementary Curriculum application instructions to find out what you must submit in support of your application. 

Step #3: Ask two individuals to complete reference forms on your behalf and submit them to Education Advising by February 28, 2018. Ideally, your referees will submit the form electronically to educapp@uvic.ca.

Step #4: Apply online by February 28 for entry in September of the same year.

BEd Post-Degree Professional Program (Elementary)

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) Post-Degree Professional Program (Elementary) is designed for those who have already completed an undergraduate degree and now wish to become an elementary school teacher.

Step #1: Review the admission requirements.

Step #2: Read the BEd Post-Degree Professional Program (Elementary) application instructions to find out what you must submit in support of your application.

Step #3: Ask two individuals to complete reference forms on your behalf and submit them to Education Advising by January 31, 2018. Ideally, your referees will submit the form electronically to educapp@uvic.ca.

Step #4: Apply online by January 2 for entry in September of the same year.

Interested in teaching in French Immersion?  It may be possible for you to take one or both of your practica in a French immersion school. Read the French immersion practicum handout for more information.

BEd or Diploma Post-Degree Professional Program (Secondary)

The Secondary Post-Degree Professional Program is designed for those who have already completed an undergraduate degree and now wish to become a secondary school teacher. 

Step #1: Review the admission requirements.

Step #2: Read the Secondary PDPP application instructions to find out what you must submit in support of your application.

Step #3: Have two referees complete reference forms on your behalf and submit them to Education Advising by January 31, 2018. Ideally, your referees will submit the form electronically to educapp@uvic.ca.

Step #4: Apply online by January 2 for entry in September of the same year.

French Immersion opportunities

French immersion opportunities

All teacher candidates have the opportunity to complete a practicum in French immersion. Some may also take the Profession Specialization Certificate in Teaching French Immersion concurrently with their program.

BEd Secondary Curriculum - Professional Year 2018 for current students

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (BEd) in Secondary Curriculum must notify Education Advising (MacLaurin Building) of their intention to enter the fifth and final year of their program by January 15.

Entry to the final year of the  requires the completion of all year 1 - 4 courses by April 30. Your notice to attend professional year in 2018/19 will initiate a review of your academic record. 

Step #1: Review the professional year admission requirements.

Step #2: Read the professional year application instructions. These will be available at the end of September.

Step #3: Read the text below and then copy and paste it into an email. Send the email to Education Advising at MacLaurin (adve@uvic.ca) by January 15, 2018. Tip! Include your name and student number.

 I plan to enter the final year of my program in September 2018.

  • I’ve read the professional year admission requirements in the UVic Calendar.
  • I understand that it’s my responsibility to ensure that all professional year admission requirements are completed by April 30, 2018.
  • I understand that if I’ve taken courses elsewhere in the September to December 2017 term, including incomplete, withdrawn, that I must submit an official transcript to Undergraduate Records by January 31, 2018.
  • I understand that If I’m attending studies elsewhere (letter of permission required) in the January to April 2018 term, that an official transcript is due by May 31, 2018.
  • I have read the professional year application instructions online at http://www.uvic.ca/education/home/home/apply/ugapply/index.php.

If I have any questions about professional year eligibility, I will consult an Education Adviser (MacLaurin Building) before the winter closure begins on December 22.  

Indigenous applicants

The Faculty of Education is committed to increasing the number of students with First Nations, Inuit and Métis ancestry in our programs. The faculty has developed distinct access initiatives:

  1. Reserved seats: 5% of the positions in all the faculty's undergraduate programs will be held for Indigenous applicants who meet the Faculty of Education's minimum program entrance requirements and Indigenous application requirements.

  2. Exceptional admission: Exceptional students who do not meet the standard faculty requirements may be eligible for admission through a case-by-case review process.
