Research collaborations

Community First: Impact of Community Engagement (CF:ICE)

Dr. Norah McRae, director of OCUE, is a member of the Community First: Impact of Community Engagement (CF:ICE) research project. This project is a collaboration with Volunteer Victoria, other community partners and numerous UVic CEL offices (including the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Education). The project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and looks at the question: How can community campus partnerships be designed and implemented to maximize the value created for non-profit, community-based organizations?

OCUE hosted a CEL breakfast in February 2016; the meeting provided a forum to discuss results from the CF:ICE research project with internal and external partners. This gathering was attended by over 50 UVic and community partners invested in developing CEL opportunities for students. OCUE helped facilitate a follow-up to this breakfast in November 2016, attended by over 40 UVic and community partners. OCUE continues to participate in the ongoing discussions and community consultation about this project.
