Health & safety

Our safety programing is informed by guidance and direction from the provincial health officer, COVID-19 Go-Forward Guidelines for B.C.’s Post-Secondary Sector and WorkSafeBC.

Learn about:

BC’s provincial health officer (PHO) is asking residents to avoid non-essential travel. For now – avoid travel to other regions inside or outside of the province unless it is essential. “Region” for this purpose is considered the local regional district. Travel for work and for educational purposes is considered essential.

The Government of Canada and BC’s PHO have advised against all non-essential travel outside of Canada, including the USA. In addition, travellers are required to self-isolate for 14 days on their return home. In response, the university is placing a hold on university-sponsored international travel.

You will be able to travel home over winter break, but will be required to follow any travel restrictions in your home region (such as self-isolation).

We have placed a hold on university-sponsored, outbound global student mobility programs. You can request special permission if you have special circumstances or your graduate program requires international travel.

Faculty & staff

UVic discourages travel to countries where the government of Canada has advised “avoid non-essential travel”. This is in accordance with our Off-Campus Activity Risk Management Policy (AD2210). Faculty travelling to destinations with such advisories should enroll in the travel registry and review the current off-campus travel resources information for such destinations.

UVic COVID-19 impact scale

The impact rating scale provides a snapshot of UVic's response through various stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. It outlines the impacts of each rating level on our operations and services.

The rating scale is a high-level summary of our overall response. It also suggests indicators that may result in a shift from one rating level to another.
