UVic at the Summer Olympics

UVic at the Games
Canadians are rightfully proud of all of the country’s athletes whose commitment and determination led them to the pinnacle of their sports at the Rio Summer Olympics.
Team Canada included a strong contingent of 22 UVic and Vikes alumni athletes, coaches and staff. Among the highlights:
- Rower Lindsay Jennerich, BSc ’06, earned a silver medal with partner Patricia Obee in lightweight double sculls with a dramatic finishing kick.
- Former Vikes swimmer Hilary Caldwell reached the podium, earning the bronze medal in the 200m backstroke.
- Catharine Pendrel, BA '04, earned bronze in mountainn bike cross-country.
- Poolside, alumnus Chris Hindmarch-Watson, BA ’03, served as English language PA announcer during the swimming competition. A former Vikes swimmer, Hindmarch-Watson has a series of top international swim meets on his resume but this was his first Olympics. He was also the pool announcer at Caldwell’s first race, in 2001.
