Building policy updates

A number of Buildings and Properties policies are under review, including:

  • BP3105 - Building Usage (including poster and banner regulations)
  • BP3110 - Use of Hallways, Corridor and other Circulation
  • BP3115 - Exterior Signs Policy
  • BP3120 - Interior Signs Policy
  • BP3130 - Furniture Policy

Read the policies under review here.

Edits and revisions to the above policies include:

a) Combining the exterior and interior sign policies and renaming University Signage

b) Combining policy concepts from the Building Usage policy and the Use of Hallways to create a more inclusive document and renaming Buildings and Grounds Usage Policy

c) Renaming the Furniture policy to Furnishing, Fittings and Finishes Policy

A significant amount of language in all 5 original policies was procedural based rather than having more general overarching policy statements.  In most cases, procedure has been removed or rewritten.  There continues to be detailed descriptions in all three policies of actual inclusions and descriptions of areas and items as all three of these policies are quoted often and one of the main purposes is to inform and direct the university community and those who are responsible for ensuring standards and regulations are maintained.

e)  New concepts and policy statements include:

 - Digital signage (University Signage Policy)

- Security Safes, Bike Racks and Lockers and Benches and Planters (Furnishing, Fittings and Finishes Policy)

- Grounds statement enhancements, animals enhancements and building time changes to reflect our current practices (Buildings and Grounds Usage)

f)  The Poster and Banner appendix is scheduled to be replaced by a stand-alone policy.  It is recommended until this new policy is approved to continue to append it to the Building Usage Policy.
