Leadership training and professional development

The University of Victoria is committed to providing career and professional development to emerging and existing academic leaders within all aspects of the annual cycle of university activities. UVic's Strategic Plan, a Vision for the Future - Building on Excellence, (Objective 6(g)) speaks to broadening the scope of our in-house training programs for new and existing chairs, directors and deans.

The Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost (VPAC) with partners across the university holds various workshops for academic leaders through the Academic Leadership Initiative program. These workshops, seminars, retreats and networking opportunities focus on topics relevant to university policies, practices, and processes important to academic administration. Our goal is to provide a coordinated program that offers effective strategies and tools for academic leaders for guiding their units forward and to give them the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role at the University.

If you have any questions please contact Ashley McKay, or at 250-853-3815.

Cost-shared external leadership training program

Would you like to pursue management and leadership training through off-campus programs, to supplement the workshops and seminars offered for academic leaders on campus? A variety of external programs have been identified that offer intensive and highly specialized curricula and an opportunity to make useful contacts with those in similar positions in other institutions.

A limited number of subsidies are provided by VPAC each year for academic administrators who wish to attend such programs.
