Credential checking
Thorough credential checking is a critical component of the appointment process at UVic.For appointments governed by the Framework Agreement, the chair of the appointments committee is ultimately responsible for ensuring that this has been done, prior to an offer of employment. The chair of the appointments committee may delegate the act of credential checking to another member of the committee if appropriate.
The credential checking process must include:
- Verification of degrees and other credentials claimed by the candidate.
- Telephone reference checking: while letters of professional or academic reference submitted by the candidate are useful, it is critical that telephone reference checking also be completed as outlined in the Faculty Recruitment Handbook.
The Framework Agreement outlines the specific qualifications required for initial appointments by rank. These qualifications must be verified during the recruitment process. Please see the following sections for more information:
