Support for newly accepted students
Welcome to UVic
We're excited for you because we know the adventure and self-discovery a university experience inspires. Joining the UVic community will be one of the best, most memorable experiences in your life. Over 97 per cent of our recent graduates have reported being satisfied or very satisfied with their UVic experience. We want you to be among our many satisfied alumni in years to come so we've built a strong support network for you, from your first campus tour until you complete your degree.
The online First Year Program Guide has all the information you need to prepare for course registration.
My page
Now that you're part of UVic, you get direct access to My page. This is where you can be kept up to date on what's going on, check your email, register for classes and so much more.
New student orientation
We can't recommend strongly enough that you plan to participate in new student orientation. This is the ideal way to get to know the campus, the faculty and staff, and make friends.
Summer
classes
The UVic summer term gives our students an additional academic opportunity to take an extra class or make up some ground for prerequisites. Visit the summer studies page to learn more about the exciting opportunities that await you and your fellow new students.
ED-D101
study skills
The university experience is centered on learning new skills. And who says they can't be study skills? Whether you're coming directly from high school, transferring from a college, or have had some time away from the classroom, UVic has a course to help you become a better student. ED-D101 is designed to help you achieve academic success. For a complete course description visit the ED-D 101 calendar.
Social
clubs
With over 80 clubs and social organizations registered with the University of Victoria Students Society (UVSS), you can find a group that shares your interests. If it turns out that we don't have a club for your particular area, then start one up. A complete list of social clubs can be found on the University of Victoria Students Society (UVSS) site.
Peer Support
and advising
Adjusting to life in a new place can be a bit overwhelming. No matter if you're new to Victoria, new to UVic, or facing a new problem, you can find someone who wants to listen at the UVic Peer Helper Program. Current students volunteer their time to go through specialized training in order to provide a helpful sounding board for other students. Services are confidential, and offered by students who know the kinds of problems that you might encounter. Detailed information can be found at the UVic Peer Helping Program.
A university degree can offer a lot of choices, and we know you want to complete your degree in a timely manner. Each faculty has their own services for advising. Make sure to book an appointment with your adviser early so that you stay focused toward earning your degree.

Help
centres
The Math Centre and Writing Centre provide free services to assist students in improving math and writing skills. As part of the larger Learning and Teaching Centre, the tutors and staff at these two locations are trained to help students develop their own competencies.
