Meet our recruiters

Wonder who makes up UVic's team of recruitment-admission liaisons? Find out who we are by exploring our profiles.

National student recruiters

Tracey Burdock - Ontario, Quebec and Maritimes

Tracey

I’m a biotechnologist, afternoon stroller and coastal living expert.  I made the switch from Halifax, Nova Scotia to the West Coast and felt right at home from the moment I arrived.

My UVic is new-to-me, beautiful and full of new imaginations to inspire.  I think that university is all about balance—between class and clubs, schoolwork and part-time work, studying and sports—and so I’m looking forward to hearing what part of student life you’re most interested in (as well as answering all of your UVic-related questions) this year.

Travel schedule:

  • January 6-February 9: Ontario

Get in touch with Tracey at tburdock@uvic.ca.

Lauren Crawford - Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut

Lauren

I'm a bilingual traveller, punk rock enthusiast and opera singer.  After two degrees in the Department of French at UVic my studies have become an integral part of my identity—not only as a learner, but as a Canadian.

My UVic is full of majestic trees, surfing weekends and local food.  I’m excited to build connections this year, right from the moment you begin wondering how your goals and values might fit with UVic to the day you start your new adventure on campus.

Travel schedule:

  • January 23-27: Calgary

Get in touch with Lauren at lcc@uvic.ca.

Hannah Lockie - Vancouver Island

I am a triathlete, biologist, dancer and recent UVic graduate. I chose to stay on the West Coast and study the biology of the human body.

My UVic feels like home, is active and is full of clubs to join. I wish I'd known to keep an open mind when I started - sometimes the courses you imagine you'll love turn out to be on the opposite path of your career goals but it's possible to change directions.

Travel schedule:

  • February 13-24: Vancouver Island

Get in touch with Hannah at hannahk@uvic.ca.

Nicole Philippson - BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan

I am an entrepreneur, professional onion chopper and nomad. I moved to the island from Vancouver when I was 11 and never want to leave for good because the island is the most beautiful place on earth.

My UVic is open, good for my inner businesswoman and close to farmer's markets. I kept my passions in mind when I chose my program, thinking less about what would make me the most money when I realized how much more I enjoyed and excelled at the classes I really cared about.

Travel schedule:

  • February 27-March 2: Kelowna

Get in touch with Nicole at nicolep@uvic.ca.

Leah Stone - Manager, National Student Recruitment

I am a traveller, goal-setter, home chef and athlete. My UVic education taught me time management, teamwork, altruism and the value of debate. It also taught me a thing or two about hockey literature and biomedical ethics - all in the name of an English degree.

My UVic is motivating and full of new interests. I wish I'd known that it's okay not to know everything - including what you want to be when you grow up - when I started university. I look forward to passing this knowledge (along with the finer points of applying to UVic) onto you.

Get in touch with Leah at stoneld@uvic.ca.

Derek Wong - Lower Mainland

I'm a shutterbug, traveller, food lover and science nerd. I pushed my imagination of what's possible as a student in biology and environmental studies at UVic and I continue to push my imagination today - particularly when I come across haunted hotels on the road.

My UVic is full of landscapes, angles, trivia and storytelling. Every prospective student I've worked with has a different story to share and I look forward to hearing what goals you dream about (and helping you make them happen).

Travel schedule:

  • January 23-27: Calgary
  • February 6-17: Lower mainland BC

Get in touch with Derek at djwong@uvic.ca.

International student recruiters

Sue Butler - Manager, International Student Recruitment

I am a runner, mother, Mandarin speaker and nonfiction lover. After beginning my studies in Vancouver I came to UVic mostly to get out of the rain. I've been here almost 30 years now though, and - wherever I travel in the world - the route home is always the most spectacular.

My UVic nurtures student writers and varsity athletes and connects to bike paths across the city. In high school I was encouraged to go into business but I went into science instead - only to find that my true love was the Chinese language. I look forward to helping you keep your passions in mind as you picture your future at UVic.

Travel schedule:

  • March 21-April 2: Turkey
  • April 22-May 2: Southern California
  • May 2-4: Nevada
  • May 22-June 4: India

Get in touch with Sue at butlers@uvic.ca.

Angela Colibaba - US, Central America and South America

I camp, dine out on the town and study other cultures. A picture really does say a thousand words for me: after one glimpse at an aerial photo of campus it was an easy decision for me to make the jump from Winnipeg, Manitoba to this warm, curious and beautiful island.

My UVic is picturesque, full of people's stories and close to nature. Before I started at UVic I wish I'd known how exciting it is to be an undecided student in your first year. In high school you get just a snapshot of what subjects are out there; at UVic, you're introduced to so many more possibilities.

Travel schedule:

  • January 30-February 3: Seattle area school visits
  • March 16-19: Seattle & Portland
  • April 9-10: Texas
  • April 12: Honolulu
  • April 14-21: Northern California
  • July 10-13: Denver (OACAC)

Get in touch with Angela at ac@uvic.ca.

Qi Ke - China and Southeast Asia

I'm a swimmer, traveller and movie buff. I moved to Victoria from China and fell in love with everything there is to know about marketing, human resources and customer service during my studies.

My UVic is full of relationships, nearby beaches and friendly colleagues. Learning about what motivates students to choose education for their future is the most exciting part of my job and I look forward to hearing what goals you dream about this year.

Travel schedule:

  • February 21-24: Hong Kong
  • February 25-March 31: China
  • April 1-5: Japan

Get in touch with Qi at qike@uvic.ca.
