Rena Mann - Mathematics and Statistics
Highlights of the UVic experience
Rena has found the entire UVic community extremely helpful and supportive of her learning. The one-on-one interactions with faculty and students enhanced her experiences and achievements.
The graduate co-op experience has given Rena a competitive edge. She was able to gain valuable industry knowledge while applying her education, as well as working on case studies for the Statistical Society of Canada Conference. Rena also achieved two NSERC USRA awards which resulted in publications.
When asked what advice she would give to students who come to UVic, Rena advises, "Always look for other research opportunities than pure coursework. You can arrange to do independent research under professors, gain teaching experience as a TA or as a sessional instructor when you are a graduate student, and present talks to the department or at conferences. Classrooms are not the only avenue of learning in university."
