K-12 programs

There are two main types of outreach for kindergarten through Grade 12:

  1. Where we visit your classroom.
  2. When your class or students have a fieldtrip to our facilities.

There are also broader community activities.

Visits to your classroom

Let's Talk Science provides science outreach to schools. Programs are free and cover a broad range of dynamic self-directed science and social science activities. Contact for information.

Scientists and Innovators in the Schools gives our chemistry faculty, staff and students a chance to visit classrooms around BC. Each student is able to perform a chemistry experiment appropriate for their age group and have fun learning a little science.

Mathematics and Statistics is involved with many math outreach events, such as math mania, math camps and several math contests for the K-12 students.

The UVic Speakers Bureau has a wide range of topics that our student, staff and faculty experts will present to your classroom or group.

Science Venture offers in-school workshops that meet Science Prescribed Learning Outcomes for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Each year we deliver over 260 2-hour workshops across Vancouver Island.  A list of our workshop offerings for 2012 can be found here.

Looking to volunteer?

Want to get involved with Science Outreach?

We're always seeking volunteers. We typically need undergraduate and graduate students who want to share their passion and experience with grade school students. We also welcome staff, faculty, teachers and other researchers and educators in the community.

If this sounds like something you'd like to be involved with, contact John Hall at or phone 250-721-7060.
