Working with researchers

There are many ways to start a research partnership with the University of Victoria.

Sometimes researchers will seek out an industrial partner to ask for their expertise and guidance in a research project. Sometimes companies want a professor to help them solve a persistent problem. Whatever the reason, Research Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization is dedicated to fostering these partnerships to ensure a productive, valuable collaboration.

UVic actively engages with industry partners to develop new technologies and solve some of industry’s most challenging problems. Industry partners can participate in research collaboration through ongoing research and through contracting specific research projects at UVic.

Usually the research plan and research activities are conducted jointly with both parties contributing. In the ordinary course intellectual property arising from these activities resides with the creator with sponsors provided with the opportunity to gain exclusive or non-exclusive access to the arising intellectual property through an option to license.
