Research service agreements

Often called fee-for-service work, research services agreements and contracts govern research activities where an established methodology or system is applied without the expectation of generating any new discoveries or inventions.

An example of research services work would be a researcher or technician running standard tests on samples supplied by a company. The university has more flexibility in accommodating a company’s specific needs in a research services agreement, especially in areas such as publication and academic licenses. The terms and conditions of such agreements are still subject to university policy though, and these may vary somewhat from a standard commercial fee-for-service contract.
