My research draws upon the disciplines of Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Child and Youth Studies.

Health Related Research

I am currently researching health practices among street-involved youth in Victoria. My past research includes working in an impoverished community in the Philippines to understand children's ideas about illness and risk. Over the past twenty years, I have studied various aspects of childbearing in Canada including women's experiences of fetal ultrasound imaging, both routine unproblematic scans and those involving fetal impairment and loss, and women's narratives of risk during pregnancy and childbirth. A recent collaborative project addresses parental bereavement and the creation of virtual memorials.
