The research mission of the University of Victoria is to benefit society through the advancement and application of knowledge, creative and artistic expression, and the creation of a research-inspired learning environment.

Supporting research
The Office of the Vice-President Research (OVPR) provides guidance for UVic’s research agenda at the institutional level. This includes setting strategic research priorities and developing initiatives to support research to ensure that UVic research continues to grow and prosper.
Office of Research Services (ORS) staff help faculty maximize their research potential. They provide advice about research opportunities, support for developing research proposals, and assistance with obtaining the required regulatory approvals. ORS also assists faculty with developing contractual agreements that describe the necessary legal provisions such as the protection of intellectual property.

Associate Vice-President Research
The role of the Associate Vice-President Research is to assist the Vice-President Research with strategic planning, policy formulation, special programs and initiatives, and the building of strong relationships with granting agencies, contractors and funders with respect to research activity at the university. The Strategic Research Plan (SRP) identifies UVic’s research directions and areas of strategic priority on which to build the institutional research capacity. The SRP also guides UVic’s strategic resource allocation, especially how the Canada Research Chair (CRC) and Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) programs will be used to enhance our capabilities.
