NSERC - DAS Program Opportunity - Call to Researchers - ORS Deadline July 3, 2012
The Discovery Accelerator Supplements Program’s objective is to provide substantial and timely resources to a small group of researchers whose research proposals suggest and explore high-risk, novel or potentially transformative concepts and lines of inquiry, and are likely to have impact by contributing to groundbreaking advances in the area. DAS support enables the researcher to capitalize on an opportunity, such as a recent research breakthrough, a paradigm shift or a new strategy to tackle a scientific problem or research question.
Researchers do not apply for a DAS. Rather, Discovery Grants recipients may be nominated during the annual Discovery Grants competition by their respective evaluation group (EG), if they meet the objectives of the program. Nominations for a DAS are considered when applications for Discovery Grants are evaluated. You may find the DAS program description and Frequently Asked Questions on NSERC’s Web site at http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Professors-Professeurs/Grants-Subs/DGAS-SGSA_eng.asp.
NSERC is offering the option for the Vice-President, Research to request from NSERC a reduction in the duration of the Discovery Grant for a limited number of their very best researchers who they believe would meet the objectives and intent of the awards. This would allow the researchers to be possibly considered for these awards earlier than their original grant duration would have allowed.
NSERC has established a quota system for each eligible institution based on its size. The quota for our university has been established as six (6).
Should you wish to be considered, please email Terri Myhr, Pre-Awards Grants Officer (grants@uvic.ca), Office of Research Services, no later than July 3, 2012.
If your name is put forward to NSERC, you will need to submit a Notification of Intent to Apply for a Discovery Grant (Form 180) by the deadline date of August 1, and a Discovery Grant application by November 1. The duration of your current Discovery Grant will be reduced accordingly.
NSERC can neither guarantee that a DAS will be awarded, nor that the previous Discovery Grant level will be maintained.
