The value of early childhood

The experiences of early childhood last a lifetime. A strong, secure foundation in the first six years of a child’s development is a benefit that lasts a lifetime. Children develop a strong core of being during this important time – approaches to life and profound attitudes towards challenges, change and other people in the world – that set a template for much of their future, and can strongly influence their approach to later life events at school, at work, and in founding their own families as adults.

The Centre for Early Childhood Research and Policy (CECRP) is committed to advancing our understanding and improving the quality of young children’s lives through primary research, innovative community-university partnerships and practical policy recommendations that will enhance supports for children in their families and far beyond.

The building blocks of a secure future.  Engaging families and communities is a central part of CECRP’s research activity, and these community-university partnerships provide strong reciprocal benefits for all parties. Strong ties with communities, academics and government enable CECRP to provide effective:

  • Networking among researchers, practitioners, and policy makers
  • Development of research teams, proposals and programs
  • Mobilization of knowledge
  • Linking research to policy and practice

Development of professional development and for-credit courses focused on child health, education and development in family and community contexts.
