Graduate Student Fellow

Crystal Tremblay has been awarded a research fellowship for her project titled "Empowerment and communication in São Paulo, Brazil: experiences with community recycling cooperatives." A graduate student with the Department of Geography, University of Victoria, her research engages participatory community-based methodologies including video and public policy dialogue to promote capacity building and sustainable development. The research will be applied in such a way as to make the livelihoods of organized recyclers ("catadores") in São Paulo visible to the government, who is usually not in contact with poorer segments of society.
