The Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health at the University of Victoria conducts multidisciplinary research. We are committed to working towards a healthy, just and productive society. The Institute takes a leading role in developing highly qualified personale. We believe in fostering research skills and mentoring the next generation of researchers who will create change in academia, healthcare, and the community.
The Institute has many opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference. Whether you assist with events or are part of ground-breaking research, there is something for everyone.
The Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health hosts many events to promote research programs, and knowledge exchange.
Would you like to be part of our planning committee or help on the day of an event? You can help with activities including the Colloquium, IdeaFest, International day of Older Person, Lafayette Health Awareness Series, and Masterminds.
Would you like to participate in research projects? You could take surveys, take part in focus groups, be interviewed, or support researchers doing these activities.
Our outstanding researchers ask critical questions. They propose real life solutions addressing an aging society, using quantitative, qualitative, longitudinal, experimental, and intervention research that is informed by our community.
Over the past 25 years, we have established a reputation for research excellence in
- Health, health service and health policy

Each year, the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health, along with our partners the Eldercare Foundation, celebrates local seniors with the Valued Elder Recognition Award, affectionately known as VERA. The award is given to honour volunteers who have generously given 10 or more years of exceptional volunteer service to their community.
Do you know someone who deserves to be appreciated as a volunteer? You can nominate them for this award.
Would you like to help make this day special for the winners? You can assist with the event planning or on the day of event.
The institute on Aging and Lifelong Heath has a reputation for exemplary knowledge sharing. Help us reach and expand our community. Currently, we maintain contact with an extensive network of community members using print and electronic newsletters, social media, seminars, lectures, formal and informal meetings, research findings, and reports. Our network includes advocacy groups, practitioners, decision makers, students, researchers, health care providers, the UVic Research partnership and knowledge mobilization unit, and the general public.
The Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health is dedicated to making a difference in people's lives, now and into the future. How can we do that? The possibilities are limitless; we need you identifying opportunities. In the past we have created scholarships and travel grants for students, as well as, for specific endeavours including VERA and IdeaFest.
