My research is focused on mathematical and computational models, particularly as applied to sensation, perception, and decision. I work with both 'classical' mathematical models and more recent 'neural' models.

Professor A. A. J. Marley, a Fellow of the American Psychological Society, was Chair of the Department of Psychology at McGill University from 1992 to 2001 (with a one-year sabbatical break in 1997), and is now Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria and Research Professor (part time), Centre  for the Study of Choice, University of Technology Sydney. He has been Editor of the Journal of Mathematical Psychology and President of the Society for Mathematical Psychology. He is the Section Editor for Mathematics and Computer Sciences of the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences (Smelser & Baltes, Editors, Elsevier, 26 volumes, 2001). He has contributed extensively to the mathematical behavioral and social sciences, including the well-received Choice, Decision and Measurement: Essays in Honor of R. Duncan Luce (Erlbaum, 1997) and, most recently, co-authored the book Behavioral Social Choice (Cambridge University Press, 2006), which will likely have significant impact on theoretical and empirical studies of the aggregation of individual preferences. His recent work has involved extensive international collaboration with psychologists, mathematicians, statisticians, and political scientists resulting in publications in psychophysics, utility theory, probabilistic choice and measurement, and voting. He was a Fellow of the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study (Hanse Wissenschaftskollegg) from September 1, 2001, to June 30, 2002, and a Visiting Researcher at SOM (Systems, Organizations and Management), University of Groningen, supported by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, from July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2004.
