Medical research to help communities
The Division of Medical Sciences is involved in leading-edge research that will assist communities in addressing their health needs.
The primary focus of the division is neuroscience research. Several faculty members are collaborating with UVic's Faculty of Graduate Studies and other UVic departments and centres to develop an interdisciplinary graduate program in neurosciences based in the division.
Neurosciences

Faculty members Dr. Craig Brown, Dr. Brian Christie, Dr. Leigh Anne Swayne and Dr. Patrick Nahirney are involved in important and relevant research in neurosciences. Their research areas include learning and memory, developmental disorders, neural stem cell, stroke and diabetes.

Academic clinician Dr. Laura Arbour is involved in research related to genetic disorders and conditions specific to Indigenous populations .
Pharmacology

Faculty member Dr. Stan Bardal is investigating genetic factors for targeting drugs more effectively and strategies to manage the high costs of prescription drugs

Dr. Nicole Fairbrother is an academic clinician with a research focus on prenatal, perinatal and post-partum mental health.

Academic clinician Dr. Anthony Tang has research interests in device therapy specific to cardiac arrhythmia and heart failure.
