DMSC professor recognized for teaching excellence

Dr. Jane Gair, Teaching Professor with the Island Medical Program and an Affiliate Professor of Teaching with the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC, was recently awarded the Department of Medical Genetics' Teaching Award, which recognizes excellence in clinical teaching.

"Winning this award is a real honour," said Dr. Gair. "Not only is it wonderful to be acknowledged for what I love to do, but also because the acknowledgement comes from the professors and mentors who sparked my interested in Medical Genetics in the first place, back in 1997."

"I continued to work with and admire all of my teachers and mentors in Medical Genetics all the way through my Ph.D., and now they're honouring me. It's pretty special to come full circle like this."

Dr. Gair was nominated for the award by Dr. Laura Arbour, a Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC and an Affiliate Professor in the Division of Medical Sciences at UVic. The teaching award has several criteria, including peer review by award committee and faculty; and student evaulations, particularly graduate students, post-doctoral and clinical fellows.
