Digital scholarship

Background

Scholarly publishing in its traditional form has become expensive and limited in its capacity to make information available to the wider community.

University of Victoria Libraries' digital scholarship program supports and facilitates innovation and experimentation in the dissemination of scholarship by members of the UVic community and beyond.

It serves to extend traditional library services and activities into the digital environment. The program provides for the storage, preservation and dissemination of scholarship in its various digital forms (text, images, audio, video, etc.) that are of value to academic teaching, learning, research and administrative services.

Resources from both the UVic Libraries' collections and from repositories outside the university are actively considered for digitization.

This highly collaborative program involves partnerships between the library, other campus departments and the broader community.

We ensure that the legal implications of reproduction of resources are properly managed and that the resources themselves are created, described, preserved and made available according to the highest standards possible.
