Joy Fisher - Non-fiction winner

"How Could Anyone Ever Tell You You Were Anything Less Than Beautiful?"

Joy Fisher is a second year student in UVic's creative writing program. Her main interests are creative non-fiction and drama.

Joy's a foreign student from the United States, and is very happy to be living in a country where gay people can marry and where there is universal health care.

"Beyond Circumstance"

Laura How, a second year pianist in the School of Music, has a lifelong passion for writing. She believes in the power of literature to speak for unheard voices.

Laura's piece was inspired by her family's experiences at an educational and medical centre in Lusaka, Zambia, this summer.
