International research

Hadron Collider
The UVic Atlas research team at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

UVic is ranked in the top one per cent of the world's best and most internationally-engaged research universities—the ideas we're generating and problems we're solving are locally-relevant, yes, but they're also globally significant.

This international focus infuses the work of every faculty and research centre on campus, resulting in dozens of state-of-the-art research projects with links to virtually every continent on the planet. These partnerships—ranging in focus from oceans and climate change to health, energy and politics—are addressing some of the social, economic and environmental challenges most relevant to the world today.

Our commitment to building thoughtful and comprehensive international partnerships is a core part of UVic's strategic plan. In recognition of this leadership, UVic was named the top university in Canada for international collaborations in the prestigious Leiden rankings in 2013, meaning that our research community has the highest proportion of publications co-authored by researchers in two or more countries.

We're building on our areas of established and emerging research strength, expanding our services to best support research partnerships and promoting the mobilization and application of this collaboratively-created knowledge for social benefit.
