Internationalizing our curriculum
The University of Victoria’s international strategic plan places a clear emphasis on the goal of internationalizing the curriculum as we prepare students for their role as global citizens.
Many academic programs have already incorporated global materials, perspectives and learning objectives into courses. Some disciplines have created specific courses or programs focusing on international regions, themes or issues.
The process of internationalization is ongoing, and below is only a sample of what's available.
If you're interested in studying in specific disciplines or pursuing interdisciplinary studies, consult an academic adviser in your areas of interest for current information on international courses and opportunities.
Learning Without Borders
Our Learning Without Borders (LWB) initiative supports integrating international elements into our undergraduate curriculum. We're creating a growing community of multi-disciplinary faculty members willing to share their experiences and inspire others.
Multi-disciplinary teams have received LWB grants to rewrite courses to include international perspectives. Learn how Ajtony Csaba is teaching music students how to listen internationally.
We'll build on the successes and lessons learned as a result of these curriculum redesign projects to inform the broader scholarly community.
Measuring changes in global awareness
Researchers constructed a survey to measure students' self-reported changes in global awareness, attitudes and actions as a result of taking an Learning Without Borders course.
Students participating in the LWB-enhanced courses reported substantial positive changes in global knowledge, taking others’ perspectives and actively seeking out information about other cultures.
