Student support

We look forward to welcoming you to our supportive and inclusive campus.

Academic Support

The Learning Commons, located in the Mearns Centre for Learning - McPherson Library, is an active, collaborative and inclusive learning environment where you can access multiple resources, services and expertise to help you succeed in your studies at UVic. Help videos are also available and are an interactive way to learn about library research strategies and resources.

The Office of the Ombudsperson

In case of a conflict situation with a staff or faculty member, students have access to free consultation with the Office of the Ombudsperson, which advocates fair procedures and offers information and guidance on students' rights & responsibilities, and UVic regulations & procedures.

International students

Our campus has an International Office that supports international students at UVic. The Marnie Swanson International Commons welcomes you, answers your questions, and provides academic programs and resources to support your success at UVic.

Indigenous students

The UVic campus stands on the lands of the Coast Salish and Straits Salish peoples; we acknowledge and honour their traditions. Our beautiful campus features a First People’s House, which provides the academic and cultural centre for Indigenous students, and a welcoming space on campus for the broader community. Our Linguistics Department offers courses in Indigenous language revitalization as well as in specific languages such as Dene, Salish, and Wakashan.

Students with a disability

The UVic community welcomes students with disabilities. For information about and support with academic accommodations, please contact the Resource Centre for Students with a Disability. Their trained staff will help you to plan for success in your degree.

Queer and trans students

Our inclusive campus offers one of the richest transgender archives in the world as well as innovative courses on gender and sexuality. The UVic Pride Collective and the UVic Positive Space Network look forward to welcoming you.

The Women’s Centre provides a space to facilitate networking among campus women; their library provides access to resources for students and the public. Consider joining our Women’s Studies Department for courses on gender, sexual orientation, and women in global contexts.

Parents and families

We know that some of students’ most important support comes from their families! Check out tips for parents on access to student information, financial management, and sending mail to students.
