HCMC BlogSince 2007 we have kept a publicly accessible blog for recording our working notes and documentation of projects. The use of the blog is voluntary, but it has become our primary means of project documentation, complementing the technical comments in the code. It has proven useful in helping us document: how we spend our time, why we make the decisions we do, and how we address specific tricky problems. We can then query the blog as needed to: keep up with each other day-to-day, better fill in for each other when necessary, or when faced with a problem to see if something similar has been faced by a colleague before, and if so, what was attempted and with what outcomes.
Use of the blog by researchers or student assistants is voluntary. Student research assistants get a real sense of being part of a development team by participating in a project blog with other assistants, the academic researcher and our developer. Virtually all of the posts are world readable, so anyone interested can see what decisions were made along the way and why.
Each major projects typically get its own blog and everyone associated with that project gets an account to post to the blog. Other projects are documented in the Departments blog. The blog engine includes a search interface, so you can simply search for the term you are interested in.
On our blog you can search the blogs or select a specific blog to see postings for it.
