Are you passionate about making a practical contribution to health and well-being in communities and reducing inequalities in health?  The BA in Health and Community Services is ideally suited for those who want to support health and social service organizations to provide just, effective, inclusive and community-sensitive services. This undergraduate program is focused on community-based approaches to health promotion, disease and injury prevention and the coordinated provision of effective health and community services. Using a skills-based curriculum the program prepares graduates for current and emerging positions in health and community services including governmental and non-profit organizations, primary care, home care, community care, health promotion and public health.  Graduates will be proficient in providing system, program, research and administrative support.  Develop your skills and passion with one of three priority populations: Older Adults, Persons with Disabilities or Indigenous People.

The BA in Health and Community Services is offered by the new School of Public Health and Social Policy within the Faculty of Human and Social Development at the University of Victoria. The School also offers a Masters of Public Health at the graduate level.

During the program you will have the opportunity to:

• learn about the developments and debates informing contemporary health and social services delivery
• develop foundational skills in program planning, community development, human resources and fiscal management
• complete a practicum to explore the meaning and application of what you learn in your courses as you develop interpersonal and team building skills
• choose one of four areas to focus on during your program:
  • Ageing
  • Disability Studies
  • Indigenous Peoples’ Health
  • International and Global Health and Human Development

You'll complete the courses online in your own community and attend 3 on-campus experiences at the University of Victoria:

• Orientation to the program: last week in August
• Area of focus condensed course: first week in May
• Culminating conference: last week in April
