Graduate Certificates

Requirements

Library Sector Leadership

The Graduate Professional Certificate in Library Sector Leadership is made up of five courses (6.5 units).

The certificate includes one on-campus course designed for professionals working in the library sector. The three-day course, held at the University of Victoria, provides the foundation for the remaining four courses which are completed online.

Students complete the remaining online courses individually, in sector-specific groups, and as members of a larger cohort of graduate students at the School of Public Administration. The online courses include assignments, readings and discussion groups specific to the library sector or focused on the individual workplace of each student.

Students register in one course per term with the aim of completing the program in less than two years.

The courses are normally taken in the following sequence:

ADMN 507A Public Sector Leadership: Teams, Self and Organization

ADMN 530A Increasing Organizational Effectiveness

ADMN 531A Strategic Human Resource Management

ADMN 577A Strategic Planning and Implementation

* Note that the orientation course (ADMN 517A) includes required attendance at on-campus intensive sessions.

Cultural Sector Leadership

The Graduate Professional Certificate in Cultural Sector Leadership program will offer a three-day on-campus orientation in January, 2010, with other courses to follow. For more information, please contact the School's Academic Administrative Officer at mpaadmin@uvic.ca.

The certificate is made up of five courses (7.5 units).

The program includes a five-day intensive on-campus course designed specifically for professionals working in the cultural sector. The five-day course, held at the University of Victoria, provides the foundation for the remaining four courses which are completed online.

Students complete the online courses individually, in sector-specific groups, and as members of a larger cohort of graduate students at the School of Public Administration. The online courses include assignments, readings and discussion groups specific to the cultural sector or focused on the individual workplace of each student.

Students are register in one course per term with the aim of completing the program in less than two years.

Evaluation Programs

The Graduate Certificate in Evaluation is made up of four courses (6.0 units) and the Graduate Diploma consists of four courses (6.0 units) and a research project (4.5 units). Students who have completed the four courses for the Certificate Program may receive a Graduate Certificate in Evaluation, or have their courses credited towards the Diploma.

The students complete the online courses and may be in classes with MPA or PhD students. The online courses include readings, written assignments, and discussion groups on topics specific to the evaluation sector or focused on evaluation-related activities in the workplace of the students.

Students register in one course per term with the aim of completing the program in less than two years.

The courses are normally taken in the following sequence:

ADMN 596 Evaluation Project (required for the Diploma)
