My co-op experience provided me with new perspectives in my field of study that I couldn't get from classroom study alone. - Mike Han
Health Information Science student Mike Han spent a recent co-op term working for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Through UVic's co-operative education program (co-op), students in some programs alternate terms in class with paid work terms in positions related to their field of study.
Han says, "Not only did I learn more about my field of study, but more importantly, my co-op terms helped me to craft my own unique career path. As a result, I am now able to pursue the career that is both suitable and enjoyable for me."
He goes on to say, "School provided me with knowledge of the tools. It wasn't until I was immersed in the work place, though, that I learned how -- and why -- these tools are used."
