Our passion inspires

Dr. Gweneth Doane
Passion, curiosity and the desire to learn are sparked when learning is centered within the context of students' own experiences and within the realities and challenges of today's world. - Gweneth Doane

School of Nursing professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Gweneth Doane is a past winner of Canada's top university teaching honour, the 3M Teaching Fellowship. The prestigious fellowship is awarded to only 10 individuals in Canada each year.

Among her many strengths is Doane's ability to interact with students formally and informally—on campus or far away from the university. She's a master of the art of classroom teaching, and equally skilled in her delivery of distance education courses.

Doane considers herself a learner as much as a teacher of nursing, and that's one of the attributes that make her approach to teaching so effective. Students gain confidence to apply what they've learned to the real-life situations they'll encounter in professional practice.

Gweneth Doane exemplifies the type of inspiring teaching you'll find throughout UVic and HSD. Our award-winning instructors engage students through their passion for their subjects, their commitment to teaching and learning, and their deep knowledge of their fields.
