Use caution on campus trails
UVic Campus Security and Saanich Police are investigating an assault on a jogger Wednesday, Feb. 27 on the Alumni Chip Trail between parking lots #8 (Fraser Building) and #10 (behind the Visual Arts Building).
The female jogger was tackled from behind at approximately 3 p.m. after a man ran past her from the opposite direction. The woman fought off the attacker and was not injured. A campus alert has been posted with the suspect's description provided by Saanich police:
"The suspect description is a Caucasian male 25 to 35 years old, between 5'9" and 6'2" with short brown hair. He was wearing a grey Nike zip-up hoodie with a black Nike swoosh on the left breast, plain black shorts that stopped just above the knees and black Nike runners with a white Nike swoosh on them. He had white "ear bud" headphones described as "iPhone type"."
Security and police patrols of the area were stepped up overnight and campus crime alerts are being posted on the trails. All trail users are advised to exercise caution, travel in pairs, carry a cell phone and refrain from using headphones in wooded areas.
