2013 Emerald Best International Symposium Award

2013 Emerald Best International Symposium Award

Gustavson has won another award at the Academy of Management meeting in Orlando, Florida. The symposium titled “The Upside of Cultural Distance: A Positive Organizational Scholarship Perspective” won the 2013 Emerald Best International Symposium Award! Mary Yoko Brannen (who spoke on “The Upside of Foreignness”) was one of five presenters at the event, which she says was very well-attended.

(Mary Yoko also reports that The Gustavson Best Qualitative Paper in International Management session that she chaired was a highlight of the IM program.)

The AoM website says the Emerald Award is an International Theme Committee award given to the symposium that best meets the objective of internationalizing the Academy. It says symposia are considered for the Emerald Award if they offer new insights, are rich in observation and employ creative methodologies. Particularly welcome are symposia on topics or methods that are not in the U.S. mainstream, but are important in other countries’ research traditions. The design and organization of the symposium should show strong evidence of collaboration between scholars from different countries.
