About Sardul S. Gill
The secrets to Sardul Singh Gill's success are simple: hard work, perseverance, and moderation. All are lessons he learned from his father, Bhan Singh Gill, an immigrant from India's Punjab region who raised a family on Canada's Vancouver Island during the Great Depression. Gill's father also encouraged him to attend Victoria College, which he did in the early 1950s en route to earning a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of B.C. in 1956.
Over half a century later, Sardul Gill chose the University of Victoria, the successor institution to Victoria College, as a beneficiary of a $5 million donation in memory of his father. The gift creates a permanent endowment for the university's Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.
In recognition, on October 7, 2011 the university is naming the business school's graduate programs after Sardul Gill. The Sardul S. Gill Graduate School of Business represents the first time in Canada that such an institution has been named after a philanthropist of Indian descent.
