Background
 

Michael’s research interests include such topics as: coaching in organizations, leadership, training and development, group design and diversity, improvisation, informal networks, and organizational attire. Possessing a unique academic background, including a PhD in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources, an MBA in International Management, and a BSc in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Michael brings a different perspective to organizational analysis and education.

Michael has taught the COM321 (Organizational Behaviour and Design) course at the University of Victoria. Teaching business courses utilizes his diverse professional experience which includes positions in human resources, resort management, and engineering. Michael’s past teaching awards include the UBC and Sauder School of Business Graduate Student Teaching Award, the CUS Teaching Excellence Runner-up, and the Paul Chwelos Memorial Scholarship for teaching excellence as a PhD student.

Michael’s primary research area, which focuses on organizational coaching, has important practical implications for how leaders and managers develop employees. His research builds on the emergence of coaching in organizations and examines how the full transference of high-performance athletic coaching can be made to its organizational equivalent. To become fully immersed in this research Michael was trained in athletic coaching (NCCP Level 3) as well as several forms of organizational coaching.
