Background
Mia Maki has been facilitating and teaching for over 18 years. She moderates for the Strategic Leadership Program for CMA Canada - British Columbia, was a sessional instructor at Royal Roads University for the Faculty of Management, Entrepreneurship program from 2003 to 2008, and has been a sessional instructor at the University of Victoria for the Faculty of Business in Entrepreneurship since 2007.
Formerly Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer for IVL Technologies, and currently doing contract CFO projects for several local technology companies, Mia has assisted in raising over $40 million in funds and in international initiatives including acquisitions (United States), strategic partnerships (Japan) and joint subsidiary creation (Europe). In addition, she provides risk assessment and other support to BC Ferries – originally in the capital acquisition program for the Super “C” ferries, and currently in the fleetwide operational project, SailSafe.
She holds a BA in Sociology and Mathematics from the University of Alberta, and an MBA in from the University of Victoria, where her MBA thesis: “The David Approach – a Strategy Method for David Companies in a Goliath World” was nominated by the business faculty for the Lieutenant Governor’s silver medal. She is also holds a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation, sits on the Board of Directors for CMA Canada -British Columbia and is a Fellow of the Society, or FCMA. The highest honour granted by CMA Canada, the FCMA designation is awarded to CMAs who demonstrate excellence in management accounting, a commitment to the CMA designation and their professional organization, and a civic-mindedness that enriches their community.
Mia has formerly served as Board member and Chair for CMA Canada – BC, as a member of the Council of Chairs, CMA Canada, as a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for MITACS (Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems) and as a Board member with VIATeC (Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Association).
