Background
 

Angela Downey is an associate professor of accounting at the University of Victoria and has been researching worksite health promotion for nearly two decades. In addition Dr. Downey is a health economist examing the financial implications of changes in health treatments and service delivery models.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Lethbridge, a master of science degree in accounting from the University of Saskatchewan and a PhD in management accounting and control from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Downey was made a Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants in 2003.

Dr. Angela Downey's research focus is prevention in health in corporate wellness programs, and the health care system. In this Faces of UVic Research video, she discusses workplace health policies making healthy food less expensive than unhealthy foods, and the money saved in the prevention of pressure ulcers or bedsores in hospitals.
