MBAs make international impact in Nespresso case competition

July 5, 2017 - UVic MBA students stood tall on the international stage once again this summer, reaching the semi-finals of the 2017 Nespresso Sustainability MBA Challenge.

The UVic team, comprising Marcus Greenshields, Tammy Pham, Mara Hawkins and Paul Flater, earned an honourable mention in the competition, which received submissions from 88 business schools located in 25 countries around the world.

An initiative of Nestlé Nespresso, in partnership with the Sustainable Markets Intelligence Centre (CIMS), and INCAE, Latin America’s leading business school, the 2017 Nespresso Sustainability MBA Challenge combined several themes central to UVic’s Sardul S. Gill Graduate School MBA program. Teams were tasked with recommending how Nespresso should leverage its sustainability commitments to become the company of choice for its global market, while building strong relationships between its employees, consumers and brand.

Counted among the 15 semi-finalists, the MBA team’s success presented another example of the edge our students continuously display amidst strong international competition. For the students, it offered a stimulating academic and professional experience, and an achievement sure to inspire them as they take the next steps in their successful careers.

“The Nespresso Sustainability MBA Challenge provided an invigorating opportunity to engage with a company that is deeply invested in improving all aspects of their sustainable business practices,” says Greenshields, who, along with the rest of the team, graduated from UVic’s MBA program in June. “It was an honour to compete alongside so many excellent business schools around the world and we’re so proud to have made it to the semi-final round.”
